Reading the company · Lesson 11 of 20

What the company owns

Net asset value per share is everything the company owns less everything it owes, divided by the shares. It is closer to a floor than a target: a working business is usually worth more than its furniture. But a share trading far below its NAV is worth asking about — either the market is wrong, or the assets are not worth what the accounts say.
