What you actually own
A share is a slice of a company. Owning one share of a company with a crore of shares means you own a crore-th of it — of its factories, its cash, its debts and whatever profit it makes. Nobody owes you your money back. What you have is a claim on a business, and its price moves because people disagree about what that business is worth.
